USE OF PRONOUN- (COMMON ERRORS)
Definition of Pronoun: Pronoun is a word used at place of noun.
Pronoun is classified into 8 parts.
PRIDERID
1. P-Personal Pronoun
2. R-Reflexive Pronoun
3. I-Indefinite Pronoun
4. D-Demonstrative Pronoun
5. E-Emphatic Pronoun
6. R- Relative Pronoun
7. I- Interrogative Pronoun
8. D-Distributive Pronoun
1. PERSONAL PRONOUN:
Definition: A personal pronoun stands for three person.
* First Person- I, We
* Second Person- You
* Third Person- He, She, It, They
Some important uses of Personal Pronoun
1. If different kinds of persons come together in sentence are arranged into 231 order.
Ex: Ram, You and I were going to Ranchi. Wrong
You, Ram and I were going to Ranchi. Correct
2. If different kind of person come together and all are plural are arranged into 321 order.
Ex: We, they and you can solve this problem. Wrong
They, you and we can solve this problem. Correct
3. "They+who" cannot be used , it is replaced by using "Those +who".
Ex: They who are going to purchase books are honest. Wrong
Those who are going to purchase books are honest. Correct
4. One:
Note:1. Anybody/Everybody के अर्थ में one का Possessive form "one's " होता है |
Ex- One should respect his parents. Wrong
One should respect ones's parents. Correct
Note:2. In the sense of single (one+of+.........) one gets Possessive form "his/her".
Ex. One of you should do your duty. wrong
One of you should do his duty. Correct
Use of It:
A. Generally it comes to denote non-living thing or animal.
Ex: I have a pen, it is red. Correct
B. "It" comes to denote a little baby also.
Ex. I have a nephew,it is very naughty. Correct
C. "It" comes to denote a natural rule/event/schedule.
Ex: It is raining cat and dog. Correct
It is sunday today. Correct
D. "It" comes to show an unknown or invisible person or thing.
Ex: Who is it,knocking at the door . Correct
E. "It" comes to make a pre-statement about something.
Ex: It is right that honesty is the best policy.
5. If different kinds of persons come together in sentence and they do illegal work are arranged into 123 order.
Ex: I, you and Ram were going to kill Mohan. Correct
6. If different kinds of person come together and first person also present in them, so their combined possession by "our"
Ex: You, Ram and I have completed our task. Correct
7. If different kinds of person come together and first person is not present in them , so their combined possession by "your".
Ex: You and Ram were going to do your duty. Correct
USE OF PRONOUN-PART-2 (COMMON ERRORS)
2. Reflexive Pronoun
Definition: A word used at the place of noun that reflects the word of subject to the subject is called Reflexive Pronoun.
Ex. Myself, Yourself, Himself etc.
Note:1. Each and every personal pronoun gets its particular Reflexive form.
Ex: Personal Pronoun - reflexive Prounoun
I - Myself
We - Ourselves
You - Yourself/Yourselves
He - Himself
She - Herself
It - Itself
One - Oneself
They - themselves
Note: 2. It is used at the place of object/after the verb.
Ex: I read myself.
Note: 3. It shows Hindi meaning स्वयं को, खुद को, अपने आप को |
Note: 4. It cannot be used as a subject of a sentence.
Ex. I can sustain himself in trouble. Wrong
I can sustain myself in trouble. Correct
Ram and myself were going to Ranchi. Wrong
Ram and I were going to Ranchi. Correct
3. Indefinite Pronoun:
Definition: A word used at the place of noun that shows the noun indefinite way is called Indefinite Pronoun.
Ex: all, some, most, little, many, few etc.
Note: 1. It is used for countable noun , it becomes plural and uses plural verb.
Ex: I have ten friends, all is working in Plastic factory. Wrong
I have ten friends, all are working in Plastic factory. Correct
Note: 2. If it is used for uncountable noun , it becomes singular and uses singular verb.
Ex: I have some rice in kitchen , all are boiled. Wrong
I have some rice in kitchen, all is boiled. Correct
Note: 3. Indefinite Pronoun ending with one/body/thing is always used in singular form and gets singular verb.
Ex: someone, anyone, no one,anybody, somebody etc
Ex: Someone are calling you at gate. Wrong

4. Demonstrative Pronoun
Definition: A word used in place of noun that demonstrates the noun is called Demonstrative Pronoun.
Ex: This, That, These, Those
Use of "This"
1.Generally "This" comes to demonstrate a singular noun that is nearer to the speaker.
Ex: I have a pen in my pocket, this is red. Correct
2. "This" comes to introduce someone or something.
Ex: meet him, this is my old friend. Correct
3. "This" comes to show visible thing.
Ex: Look here, this is my old car.
4. "This" comes to make a post statement about something.
Ex: Honesty is the best policy, it is right. Wrong
Honesty is the best policy, this is right. Correct
Use of "That"
1. "That" comes to demonstrate singular noun that is far from the speaker.
Ex: Look there, that is my car. Correct
2. "That" comes to make recognition to someone.
Ex: Look there on the stage, that is Salman khan in blue shirts.
3. If we talk about two persons or things , use "this" to demonstrate second one and "that" for first one.
Ex: Sonia and Advani both are leaders, this belongs to the BJP and that belongs to the Congress.
Use of "These"
1. "These" comes to demonstrate plural countable noun that are nearer to the speaker.
Ex: Look here, these are my cars.
Use of "Those"
1. "Those" comes to demonstrate plural countable noun that are far from the speaker.
Ex: Look there in the ground, those are new cars.
2. "They + who" cannot be used , it is replaced by "those +who".
Ex: They who are playing in this match are good player. Wrong
Those who are playing in this match are good player. Correct
Emphatic Pronoun
Definition : A word at the place of noun that emphasis the noun is called emphatic pronoun.
Ex: Himself, Myself, Yourself, etc
1. Each and Every personal pronoun gets its particular emphatic form.
Ex: I - myself
We - Ourselves
You - Yourself/Yourselves
2. It is used before the verb and just after the subject.
3. It shows Hindi meaning "खुद ही ", "स्वयं ही" , "अपने आप ही " .
Ex: I himself can solve this question. Wrong
I myself can solve this question. Correct
Interrogative Pronoun
Definition: A word used at the place of noun that arises question for the noun is called Interrogative Pronoun.
Ex: who, What, Where, Which, Whom, Where ect.
Note 1.: It is used in the beginning of the sentence.
Note 2. : It gets (?) question mark to finish it sentence.
Note 3.: It shows Hindi meaning beginning with "क"
Ex: Ram is a dancer, Who is a dancer?
Relative Pronoun:
Definition: A word used at the place of noun that makes relation of the noun is called relative pronoun.
Ex: Who, What,, Which, whom, that etc
Note 1. It is used amid the sentence.
Note 2. It gets full stop (.) to finish a sentence .
Note 3. It shows Hindi meaning beginning with "ज".
Ex: Ram who is a cricketer is my friend . Correct
Note 4. "What" can be used in the beginning or amid the sentence as a relative pronoun.
Ex: what is done,is done .
Ex: I don't understand what you say.
Note 5. A relative pronoun comes just after the noun or pronoun for which it is used .
He prefered Manmohan Singh Government who was an economist.
Wrong
He prefered the Government of Manmohan singh who was an economist. Correct
Note 6. किसी relative pronoun के बाद आनेवाला verb उस subject के आधार जिसके लिए Relative Pronoun खुद आता हो |
Ex: The pen that is red is mine. Correct
The pens that are red are mine. Correct
Ex: Ram is one of the Players that is playing for India. Wrong
Ram is one of the Players that are playing for India . Correct
Distributive Pronoun
Definition: A word used at the place of noun that shows the noun in distributive way is called distributive Pronoun.
Ex: Each, Everyone, Either, Neither etc.
Note 1. It is singular and uses singular verb.
Ex: Everyone are ready to go there. Wrong
Everyone is ready to go there. Correct
Note 2. Each and Everyone is also used in singular form and uses singular verb.
Ex: Each and Everyone are ready to go there. Wrong
Each and Everyone is ready to go there. Correct
Note: 3. Distributive Pronoun + 0f + Noun/Pronoun (Plural noun/Pronoun) + singular verb
Ex. Each of the students have completed the assignments. Wrong
Each of the students has completed the assignments. Correct
Note 4. Plural noun/Pronoun + each/everyone + plural verb.
Ex. We each is ready to go there. Wrong
We each are ready to go there. Correct
GRAMMARLY: USE OF PRONOUN -PART 4 (COMMON ERROR)
USE OF PRONOUN :
1. Either: It is used to select one form given two options.
Ex: Any of the two students can solve this question. Wrong
Either of the two students can solve this questions . Correct
2. Any: It is used to select one form given more than two options .
Ex. Either of the ten students can solve this sum. Wrong
Any of the ten students can solve this sum. Correct
3. Neither: It is used to neglect both of the given two options.
Ex: None of the two students can solve. Wrong
Neither of the two students can solve. Correct
4. None: It is used to neglect all of the given more than two options.
Ex: Neither of the ten students could solve this sum. Wrong
None of the ten students could solve this sum. Correct
5. Each: It is used to show two options in distributive way.
Ex: Each one of you will be awarded with bravery award. Correct
6. Everyone: It is used to denote more than two options in distributive way.
Ex: Everyone of us got prize for winning the competition. Correct
7. Both: It is used to accept two options together.
Ex: Both Ram and Shyam can do this work . Correct
8. All: It is used to show more than two options together.
Ex: All of ten students can solve this problem . Correct
9. All appropriate use of pronoun depends on the number,gender and person of its noun.
10. If more than one post comes together and only first one gets article uses pronoun "He /she" group.
Ex: The director and manager of this company are present in their office. Wrong
The director and manager of this company is present in his office. Correct
11. If more than one post comes together and all get article , use pronoun "they" group.
Ex: The director and the manager of this company are doing their job seriously. Correct
12. "The + adjective " shows its entire community that is plural and uses pronoun "they" group.
Ex: The rich lead his life comfortably. Wrong
The rich lead their life comfortably. Correct
13. "The + adjective + noun" uses pronoun and verb according to the noun.
Ex: The rich boy leads their life comfortably. Wrong

14. An indefinite pronoun ending with "one or body" uses pronoun " they" group.
Ex: If someone has completed the work , he may go home. Wrong

15. Indefinite pronoun ending with "thing " uses pronoun, "it" group.
Ex: Something is lying on there place. Wrong

16. My, Your, Our, Her, His, Their etc are used either in the beginning of sentence or amid in the sentence.
Note: ध्यान रहे कि इसका प्रयोग किसी वाक्य के अंतिम word के रूप में संभव नहीं है |

This is my car. Correct
This car is my. Wrong
This care is mine. Correct
17. Mine, Our's, Your's, Her's, Their's etc are generally used as the last word of a sentence but they can be in beginning also.
Ex: This car is my. Wrong
This car is mine. Correct
Mine ( मेरा वाला ) is red. Correct
18. A distributive pronoun (each, everyone, either, neither) uses pronoun "he" group.
Ex: Everyone must respect their parents. Wrong
Everyone must respect his parents. Correct
19. Distributive pronoun + of + us = We (group)
Ex: Each of us must donate what he can. Wrong
Each of us must donate what we can. Correct
20. Distributive pronoun + of + You = you (group)
Ex: Each of you must donate what he can. wrong

21. Distributive pronoun + of + them = he (group)

25.Both, Many, Several, few etc = " they group "

26. Much, Little, a little , the little, use pronoun "it group"from "themself" .
Ex: Much of the rice is remaining on their place. Wrong

27. "Same" can't be used alone, a noun must be used with it .
Ex: This is the same that i bought yesterday. Wrong
This is the same pen i bought yesterday. Correct
28. "As........as" is used in affirmative or interrogative sentence.
Note: It can't be used in Negative structure.
Ex: Mohan is as intelligent as Shyam. Correct
Is Mohan as intelligent as Shyam ? Correct
Mohan is not as intelligent as Shyam . Wrong
29. "so......as" is used in negative sentence.
Note: It can't be used in affirmative or interrogative structure.
Ex: Ram is so intelligent as Shyam Wrong
Ram is not so intelligent as Shyam . Correct
30. "who " comes to arise question for human being that is the subject of a sentence.
Ex: Ram writes a letter. Who writes a letter? means Ram.

37. "Whose " comes as relative pronoun for the possession of human being.
Ex: Ram which brother is a doctor is my friend. Wrong

38. "Whom" comes as relative pronoun for human being that is the object of a sentence.
Ex: I know the boy which you were taking. Wrong

39. "Which" comes as relative pronoun for a neuter gender.

40. " of which" comes as relative pronoun for the possession of neuter gender.
