USE OF PRONOUN-PART-2 (COMMON ERRORS)
2. Reflexive Pronoun
Definition: A word used at the place of noun that reflects the word of subject to the subject is called Reflexive Pronoun.
Ex. Myself, Yourself, Himself etc.
Note:1. Each and every personal pronoun gets its particular Reflexive form.
Ex: Personal Pronoun - reflexive Prounoun
I - Myself
We - Ourselves
You - Yourself/Yourselves
He - Himself
She - Herself
It - Itself
One - Oneself
They - themselves
Note: 2. It is used at the place of object/after the verb.
Ex: I read myself.
Note: 3. It shows Hindi meaning स्वयं को, खुद को, अपने आप को |
Note: 4. It cannot be used as a subject of a sentence.
Ex. I can sustain himself in trouble. Wrong
I can sustain myself in trouble. Correct
Ram and myself were going to Ranchi. Wrong
Ram and I were going to Ranchi. Correct
3. Indefinite Pronoun:
Definition: A word used at the place of noun that shows the noun indefinite way is called Indefinite Pronoun.
Ex: all, some, most, little, many, few etc.
Note: 1. It is used for countable noun , it becomes plural and uses plural verb.
Ex: I have ten friends, all is working in Plastic factory. Wrong
I have ten friends, all are working in Plastic factory. Correct
Note: 2. If it is used for uncountable noun , it becomes singular and uses singular verb.
Ex: I have some rice in kitchen , all are boiled. Wrong
I have some rice in kitchen, all is boiled. Correct
Note: 3. Indefinite Pronoun ending with one/body/thing is always used in singular form and gets singular verb.
Ex: someone, anyone, no one,anybody, somebody etc
Ex: Someone are calling you at gate. Wrong
Someone is calling you at gate. Correct
4. Demonstrative Pronoun
Definition: A word used in place of noun that demonstrates the noun is called Demonstrative Pronoun.
Ex: This, That, These, Those
Use of "This"
1.Generally "This" comes to demonstrate a singular noun that is nearer to the speaker.
Ex: I have a pen in my pocket, this is red. Correct
2. "This" comes to introduce someone or something.
Ex: meet him, this is my old friend. Correct
3. "This" comes to show visible thing.
Ex: Look here, this is my old car.
4. "This" comes to make a post statement about something.
Ex: Honesty is the best policy, it is right. Wrong
Honesty is the best policy, this is right. Correct
Use of "That"
1. "That" comes to demonstrate singular noun that is far from the speaker.
Ex: Look there, that is my car. Correct
2. "That" comes to make recognition to someone.
Ex: Look there on the stage, that is Salman khan in blue shirts.
3. If we talk about two persons or things , use "this" to demonstrate second one and "that" for first one.
Ex: Sonia and Advani both are leaders, this belongs to the BJP and that belongs to the Congress.
Use of "These"
1. "These" comes to demonstrate plural countable noun that are nearer to the speaker.
Ex: Look here, these are my cars.
Use of "Those"
1. "Those" comes to demonstrate plural countable noun that are far from the speaker.
Ex: Look there in the ground, those are new cars.
2. "They + who" cannot be used , it is replaced by "those +who".
Ex: They who are playing in this match are good player. Wrong
Those who are playing in this match are good player. Correct
