यह के प्राकृतिक संसाधन है , प्राकृतिक वनस्पति , मानव जीवन , वन्य जीवन , आर्थिक क्रियाएं , परिवहन और संचार व्यवस्थाएं भूमि पर आधारित है |

भूमि एक सीमित संसाधन है |
* It is significant to use careful planning .
इसलिए उपलब्ध भूमि का विभिन्न उदेश्यों के लिए उपयोग सावधानी और योजनाबद्व तरीके से होना चाहिए |

* Plains - 43% (total surface area of country )
मैदान - 43% ( देश के कुल क्षेत्र का )
* Mountains - 30% ( total surface area of country )
पर्वत - 30%( देश के कुल क्षेत्र का )
* Plateaus - 27% ( total surface area of country )
पठार - 27% ( देश के कुल क्षेत्र का )

वन और कृषि के अनुपलब्ध भूमि
* Barren and waste lands
बंजर तथा कृषि योग्य भूमि
* Permanent pastures and Grazing lands
स्थायी चारागाहें तथा अन्य गोचर भूमि
* Culturable waste lands (Remained uncultivated for more than 5 agricultural years )
कृषि बंजर भूमि जहाँ पांच से अधिक वर्षों से खेती न के गई हो |
* Current fallow lands : left without cultivation for one or less than one agricultural year )
वर्तमान परती ( जहां एक कृषि वर्ष या उससे कम समय से खेती न की गयी हो |)
* Other than Current fallow lands : Remained cultivated for the past 1 to 5 agricultural years )
वर्त्तमान परती भूमि के अतिरिक्त अन्य परती या पुरातन भूमि ( जहां 1 से 5 कृषि वर्ष तक से खेती न की गई हो )
* Net sown Area : Area sown more than once in an agricultural year plus net sown area called gross cropped area.
शुद्व बोया गया क्षेत्र : एक कृषि वर्ष में एक बार से अधिक बोए गए क्षेत्र को शुद्व बोए गए क्षेत्र में जोड दिया जाए तो वह सकल कृषित क्षेत्र कहलाता है |
