RESOURCES AND DEVELOPMENT class 10 (PART-1)

Resources : The things available in our environment which can be utilised to satisfy our requirements , it is technologically accessible , economically possible and culturally acceptable can be termed as "Resource".
*  The process of the transformation of things available in our environment includes an interdependent relationship between nature , human beings and technology.
*  Resources can be divided  into different categories .
*. On the basis of origin :
1. Biotic  Resource : Obtained from biosphere and have life like flora and fauna ,human beings, livestock  etc.

2. Abiotic Resource:  Composed of non-livings things  e.g. metals , Rocks

*  On the basis of Exhaustibility :
1. Renewable Resources : Resources which can be reproduced or renewed by physical , mechanical or chemical processes e.g. solar and wind energy, water , wildlife and forests etc.
2. Non-renewable Resources : take millions of years in their formation  e.g. fossil fuels and minerals
On the basis of Ownership:
1. Individual Resources: Owned privately by individuals e.g. own house, plot, car , well etc.
2. Community Resources: Accessible to all the members  of the community  e.g. public grounds, picnic spots, playground etc.
3. National Resources:  All the resources belong to nation e.g. forests, wildlife, oceanic area up to 12 nautical miles from the coast.
4. International Resources : the oceanic resources beyond 200 km of the exclusive economic zone .
On the basis of the status of development:
1. Potential Resources : which are found  in a region ,but have not been utilised e.g. development of solar and wind energy in Rajsthan and Gujrat
2. Developed Resources: which are surveyed and their quantity and quality have been determined for use.
3. Stock Resources :  Which have the potential to satisfy human needs but they do not have appropriate technology to access them .
4. Reserves Resources  : Which can be pit into use with the help of existing technical "know how" but their utilisations have been postponed for meeting the future needs .
E.g. limited use of hydroelectric
